Due to a very heavily waterlooged Long Lane pool and surroundfing fields the club have decided to cancel the next two matches, in order to give the venue time for water to recess. This means the Silver Match planned for Saturday 13th April and following match on 17th Club mid-week match have been removed. The match that is scheduled for the 17th has now been Switched to the honeysuckle iNewport.
The 2024 league got underway on Sunday, staring with the Shropshire union canal, last years champion Gerry won the day with a 4lb odd. See results for more info.
Match Season is now underway, with regular matches on Weds and Saturdays / Sundays running, we've had several on the Shropshire union canal so far, a Silver match on Stirchley Top and club matches on Newport Canal, Bearcroft Pool and Long Lane.
The Wednesday match on Long Lane is strictly book on only. Due to the heavy rains and standing water the match is being capped / limited to 12 Anglers. Anglers interested in this should book on with Whippet on 07969 225571
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of a popular Angler and valued member of the Audco club. Roy Biddulph passed away recently and the club wish to extend our condolences to his friends and family, he was a very popular Angler and very nice guy. R.I.P Roy.
As many will know if they've visited the venue in the last month or two, the pool is carrying a lot of extra water. Most of the pegs are underwater, the field remains closed to parking (which is normal this time of year) and the ground is very saturated. It's been noted there has been damage (due to extreme rain) of some of the pegs.
The grounds around the pool are heavily waterlogged, members should exercise caution if fishing the venue. When conditions subside the club willl continue with peg maintenance.
We're pleased to announce that Tony Turner and Rich Cavey have been elected to join the Audco committee from Feb 24. We'd like to welcome them on board. The guys have attended meetings and along with many other memebers carry out great work for the club, so a pleasrue to have them join us.
Tony will also be helping to Bailiff Long Lane Pool. Nigel Simpson is still a bailiff on there but we now have two guys who will montior the site for us.
The post Christmas match on Long Lane Pool has been switched to Bearcroft Pool due to flooding on long Lane. The pool is under water! The draw-time is the same (9am).
We have decided to put a club match on between Christmas and new year, on Long Lane Pool. This will be popular so ensure you book on! Draw 9am fish 10am - 3pm.
The re-arranged Christmas match was fished this Ssturday (16th December), the fishing was tough for many and the weather was mild. Phil found a a few on bread and had a good bag of bits to win with 3lb 10oz 4 drams,
1) Phil Bowen - 3lb 10oz 4 drms
2) Rich Cavey - 2lb 6oz 6 drms
3) Tony Turner - 2lb 6oz
The recently postponed Christmas match (due to severe weather) has now been re-scheduled for Saturday 16th December. Same as previous plans, draw 9am fish 10am - 3pm. Anyone wishing to fish mus be a member of Audco AC and must have attended at least 6 matches throughout the year. The club will put prizes up and thanks for kind donations (Bob Pritchard / Roy Biddulph).
Same venue Shropshire union canal (Honesty Box).
The Christmas fayre match shceduled for Saturday has been postponed, with sharp frosts and minus temperatures has seen many drop out. We've decided to postpone until after the cold snap. Watch this space for another date. You can put that Christmas tree up instead :)
November 2023
The year has almost gone already and how quickly things move along, or so it seems! We’ve had a busy year at the Fishing club, following changes from 2022 and got through plenty of work in process!
We’ve invested funds in materials, and stock for our waters and Bearcroft Pool has seen plenty of investment of time and money over last 12 months (and beyond), we’ve continued the re-stocking with a few hundred more Tench and Crucian Carp, following previous years Tench and F1 stock. Added to the decent number of silvers and fish we have in the lake; it was pleasing to see the fish showing right through the warmer months and Anglers (both match and pleasure) have enjoyed plenty of bites and good sport from these fish!
We have also worked hard at removing as much weed as possible, and with good water management have kept on top of it (thanks to all involved in the on-going work), it’s been in very fine condition (and form) and testimony to that, is we now see “regulars” on the venue most weeks.
Long Lane has also been fishing well through the year, with plenty of work carried out to repair pegs, remove fallen trees etc. The pool is in good condition and the fish are prospering.
It’s also been very pleasing that we’re able to work closely with other Angling clubs, with pool sharing / swaps etc and are delighted to have recently added 3 more stretches of the Shropshire Union canal, thanks to an agreement with Wyche to sub-let and we’ve continued our arrangement for Honeysuckle canal (thanks to honeysuckle AC). We have enjoyed some good team matches and pool swaps with Hodnet AC and we enjoy lower peg fees for T.A.A waters (due to our affiliation with T.A.A).
The club have continued with good levels of membership in 2023, retaining many fishermen and selling out just under 200 cards for the year. This along with peg fees generated by the various match men and other clubs, enables reinvestment into waters, maintenance and new waters if they become available.
The club have run plenty of matches with Harry and co running regular matches, I’ve continued with the annual Series, which now has a waiting list for spaces for 2024 and the silver matches have been very very popular with a lot of Anglers. The club is in an excellent position as far as matches are concerned.
It’s been a real team effort from Members (and none members) to make it a successful year the club, much work goes on behind the scenes with likes of Treasurer, club secretary and committee members being dedicated to make it a good club to join and pleasure to be part of.
I’d like to wish all members very best for festive season and tight lines for 2024!
Stuart Miles
The last silver match before the end of the calendar year is taking place on Saturday 18th Novemeber at Stirchley Top Pool, Telford. Draw time 9am, £12 entry. You must book on for these matches.
This month has seen the A.G.M come and go with no major changes in committee memebers or with prices of membership. Two proposals we're sent in and a good number of memebers turned out to have their say and vote on these proposals. It was decided to retain the Newport Canal and it was also decided to keep match fees in place for club matches that over 7 anglers turn out for.
We have a our A.G.M next Thursday night at The Kings Head Newport. We have had two proposals that the committee will be reviewing and voting on. These are
1) Should the club relinquish our stretch of Newport canal in the town.
2) Should match fees be abolished for club matches?
Free free to share your views on email or by taking to a committee memeber or coming along to the A.G.M 7:30pm. Email: info@audco.co.uk
The club are delighted to announce that we have reached an agreement with Wyche Angling club to sub-let several stretches of the Shropshire Union canal. The agreement allows members to fish these lengths from October 1st! The water is from Park Heath Bridge (Bridge 48) up to The Honesty Box, Soudley (Bridge 51). This offers some fantastic fishing and great easy access / parking for the Soudley area stretch. The Oaktree length is a known hotspot for Bream and Skimmers, so some good fishing available to members. More details will be added to the site in coming weeks.
Team Audco had another friendly match vrs Hodnet AC this weekend on Long Lane, warm but wet the fishing started slowy and improved half way through. Audco team took the win on the day. See match results for more details.
Gerry Powell became the 2023 League Champion on Sunday and did it in style by winning the final Match on Apley with 67LB 10oz. It was finally contested league with Gerald leading the way going into the final match, so nip and tuck to the end. Last years champion (Gerald Large) was runner up and Phil Bowen was 3rd place, see more info on match results and the series.
We have a re-arrangement on Long Lane this month with Rods n Reels match being switched to 23rd Sep (from 2nd). They had double booked the date so we've accomodated their change to help them out, we appreciate our members understanding.
An Audco Team and A Hodnet AC team came together on Saturday 3rd to fish on Hodnets Ryleys Pools. The fishing was as tough as it ever gets and it was a big lottery on the day as to who caught (and what), maybe something to do with that super blue moon on the day!!! The match was contested on a 6 v 6 basis and overall weight was to decide the winning team on the day Hodnet had 21lb 4oz beween their guys and Audco managed 25lb 14oz as a group so took the spoils on the day!
We will be having a return match on Sunday October 1st on Long Lane. We'd like to thank Paul and the Hodnet guys for making us feel very welcome and running a good match. We look forward to reciprocrating on Long Lane in October :)
A reminder to memebers that the card had a print error on it suggesting a match on 3rd September, this is NOT the case the pool is open for fishing on 3rd but is closed on Sunday September 10th for league match.
There is an event the first weekend in September in Hinstock (Fun Run) which is an organised charity event. This will see many people in the village and will also see alot of cars likely in the hall car park. The Pool may also have some cordining off (some areas) during the event day. We aren't closing the pool but would advise Anglers that it might be noisy or busy!
The 2023 Audco league is reaching it's final stages now with only 3 rounds to go. After 8 rounds (when removing 3 worst results) it's nip and tuck with plenty to play for and anyone of 5 Anglers can still take the title this year! Phil has had a consistent league so far with no 1st placings but plenty of top 4 finishes, Gerald (current champ) has had 3 x 1st placings and is front runner. Ron has also had 2 x 1st places and Gerry is right up there too only 5 points seperate the top 5 anglers, All to fish for! So game on for the run in!!!
See Series page and match results for more info.
News reached us today (20th July 2023) that a KHV outbreak has occured on Leegomery Pools in Telford. As a precautionary measure the committee have implemented a ban on keepnets on our club waters when pleasure fishing. In matches nets MUST be dried properley prior to use to minimize risks. If any of memebers have fished the affected waters then Nets, Weighing slings, mats etc must be disinfected and dried in natural light prior to using anywhere else.
The Fish Health Inspectorate (FHI) at Cefas have confirmed an outbreak of KoI Herpesvirus Disease at Leegomery Pools in Telford and controls have been put in place there to prevent further spread of the disease and the FHI are currently assessing the extent of the outbreak and available options. More details can be accesssed via the .gov website, details of such sites can be found
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/prevent-fish-or-shellfish-diseases
Due to this local outbreak, we're being cautious and placing keepnet ban on waters, we need to protect our fish stocks as much as possible and appreciate member understanding in this matter.
A note to members: Bearcroft Pool in Hinstock will be closed on Monday 10th July from 8am until around 1pm due to fishery maitenance. We appreciate members understanding.
Sadly the open silver match planned for Stirchley top has had to be cancelled due to low numbers of Anglers available for this match. We hope to get another date when more Anglers can attend to make it viable.
This years league is hotting up with a few moving ahead of the group now, Gerald , Ron and Phil are setting the pace at half way point. Ron won with a fabulous 116lb on Sunday from Farm Lodge to make it his second win this series, Gerald has 3 wins so a bit of a head to head early doors. See match results for more info.
Sadly we've heard news that a small Swan has died on one of the Canal stretches due to fishing line. We do not know what specific stretch this happend, but nevertheless it disturbing to hear. We ask all fishermen (regardless of club) to be extra carefull when on the banks not to leave any discarded lines or hooks. We all need to look after the wildlife and ensure a safe environment for all. Please double check your pegs before leaving to ensure no line or hooks have been dropped. As usual we appreciate your co-operation.
Gerald Large took round 5 in very, very tough conditions on Long Lane Pool Sunday. The fishing was extremly tough with the Carp not playing ball at all for most. Gerald found a few on the Tip from peg 15 to take top spot again, making it 3 wins from the first 5 rounds to set a real pace for the league. Again sections we're paid on the day:
Overall Winner - Gerald Large Peg 15 - 28lb 3oz (Method feeder).
Section A (Pegs 1-8):
1) Richard Cavey (Peg 2) - 13lb 6oz (1 Carp 11lb 10oz) - Pole
2) Tony Turner (Peg 3) - 11lb 11oz (1 Carp) -Pole
Section B (9-18)
1) Simon Dromgool (Peg 9) - 11lb (3 Carp)
2) Dave Burton (Peg 14) - 8lb 3 oz (all silvers)
Members please note that Long Lane will now have a match on it Saturday 10th June, all pegs. The pool will be closed from 8am to 3:30pm for the revised match. NOTE this match was on Melverley farm but due to water closure it's been switched to our own venue. We rarely place matches on Long Lane if not on printed card but this is the exception to the normal. We appreciate members understand.
The club have been notifed and have spoted signs of illegal fishing and possible fish poaching at Bearcroft Pool in Hinstock. We had reports of spinner with Treble hooks being found and also a bottle fish trap. We ask any memebers who spot suspicous activity to report it to the committee or fishery bailiff. We are monitoring and watching the water closely and as many of you know we've put a lot of work and time into the pool and are determined not to allow this to go unchecked. Spinning is not permitted on any of our Pools and if anyone is caught on Long Lane or Bearcroft spinning licenses will be revoked.
The Silver fish match scheduled for Melverley Farm Birches Pool has been cancelled off Melverley due to fishery being closed. An alternative venue is to be used, likely this will be Bearcroft Pool.
The 2023 league is taken shape now with 4 rounds completed and reigning champion Gerald is not giving up his trophy easily! A super performance from him on Sunday taking the top spot and just piping another in form Angler "Gerry Powell" by 3oz to take overall 1st on the day and make it his 2nd 1st placing already this campaign! See Series and Match result pages for more information.
Gerry Powell become the 3rd winner of a round series, following Ron Mullinders opening day win and Geralds second round win. See match results and series pages for more info. Round 4 will be on Shropshire canal (Goldstone) on May 21st.
Next round takes place on Sunday at Melverley Farm fishery, thus time Birches Pool, 8:45am draw.
Please note the guys will be carrying out some urgent maintance at Long Lane this Friday night (21st April), Peg 2 and Peg 9 are in need of some repair work so from 5pm the lads will be working on these. Appreciate your understanding.
Ron Mullinder won on his return to the match group and starts this years leage with a hard earned win. With people scratching for bites, Ron put a good shift in to take the overall 1st on day. Phil Bowen started well too with a 2nd place and new comer to our league Richard Cavey taking 3rd spot. Fishing was crazily hard on round one, well done to everyone who turned up, fished and all those who helped run it.
The club are please to announce more fish stock into Bearcroft Pool. On 17th March, 300 Crucian and another 100 Tench we're stocked as part of the clubs continued commitment to our waters.
We have a waiting list for the popular Audco league which starts on Sunday 2nd April at Shropshire Union canal. We'll be using the Goldstone boats stretch, draw at 8:45am fish 10am - 3pm.
Saturdays silver open is fully booked. Draw 9am fish 10am-3pm
The annual charity match will be held on Honeysuckle and Newport Town stretches of canal on Saturday May 27th. Book on with Bob Pritchard please (07531) 780250.
Saturdays match is to be held on the Shroppy at Goldstone Whart (Boats), silver match draw at 8:45/9am - Fish 10am to 3pm
The club match on Saturday 11th Feb has been switchd to Bearcroft Pool instead. NOTE Bearcroft Pool will now have match on it from 9am-3pm on 11th Feb.
The new 2023 club cards are now on sale at the normal outlets. Once again (and despite re-stocking) the card prices remain un-changed. Adult cards £28, Senior Cards £20 and Junior cards are £10
We're delighted to announce we have an agreement with Honeysuckle Angling club, where Audoco memebers can now fish their strectch of canal.
This years fur and feather was staged on Long Lane, and sold out with Anglers on the waiting list should anyone have dropped out. All fishable pegs we're taken and 3 sections, plus overall winner and best Silver bag we're paid out on the day and as normal everybody had a prize or two to take home. Thanks goes to all that contributed to prizes, prize fund, and organising and running the event. Tony Jackson took overall winner spot this year with 26lb odd from Peg 2 and last years winner Stu Miles was 2nd from Peg 8 with 24lb odd. Specail thanks to Tony Jackson too, who not only brought prizes but also donated £30.
See match results for more infomation.
2022 has again seen membership hitting the220 mark with our finances looking sound. Our fishing water
Continues to produce good sport if not always in matches
Long Lane now holds some quality big carp and a stocking of F1 carp as added to the large head of fish
Already resident in the water Again work has been carried out keeping the pegs in good condition
Unfortunately this year as our committee members start to get older most of the work has been left
To the few younger members who are capable of the physical work required ie relaying slabs with the
elders helping were possible.
Bearcroft as undergone a large clear out of weed and the pool has been fishing well with last year,s stock
fish starting to show.
Newport Canal as always causes problems overgrown weed and plants at times choke the water and
We are restricted by outside forces on what we can do But good Carp Tench Bream and Pike are at
Times caught
Match Sec Stu Miles as again ran a successful Series along with some good silver matches and we have
Had a long run of midweek club matches on different venues.
Look forward to 2023 being as successful for our club
The first match of the Autumn Silver was fished on Apley last Saturday (15th Oct), with a great turnout of Anglers, some very good nets of Silvers (when we could avoid Carp!) but Colin Barnes stole the show with a fantastic bag of Roach and Perch to score top spot with an impressive 19lb 6oz! - See "Match Results" page for more info. Well done great match guys.
There is a mid week match this Wednesday on Long Lane (5th October). It was booked in at begining of year but missed card print. Also the Popular Silver matches start thi month with 2 taking place Apley Pool on 15th October and Melverley Farm on 29th October. You need to book on for these matches and it should be noted that Apley is now fully booked as is Melverley Farm. We do have another one on 19th November (Stirchley top).
The 2022 League final round took place on 18th September at Long Lane. Gerald just had to turn up following the last round and weigh something in and he finished in style winning on Long Lane peg 14! Full results to follow, runner up was Dave "Bertie Bagger" Burton who has also had a very good campaign this year. Gerald wins the league fishing the Tip throughout the series, just showing if you stick at a method and fine tune it, then anything can be achieved. Well done Gerald on becoming the league Winner adding a new name to the roll of honour!
Last years winner Dave Matson finished joint 3rd place with Stuart Miles and Bob took the final payout spot. All in all an enjoyable and tightly conetested leage this year, with different winners most rounds. 2023 dates and venues will appear very soon and we already have a waiting list to join next year! Tight lines!
The Audco league is all but wrapped up with Gerald winning round 10 and other Anglers in the top 4 not framing on the day. Wigmore was very peggy and fishing was patchy. See match results and "the series" pages for more information. Top 5 will be paid out at end of the league on Long Lane Pool in September. Thanks to everyone who attended and took part, also thanks to Dave Burton (and others) for weighing anglers in, Dave Matson for pegging the venues and Sam for the cakes!
It's come to the attention of the Long Lane bailiff that some Anglers have been using barbed hooks and some have been using floating baits. We'd like to remind everybody who fishes ANY Audco waters that Barbed hooks are a non starter and members can expect to be banned and expelled from the club if found to be using barbed hooks. This is not a new rule! Most fisheries have this in place for fish welfare, so please respect the rules they are in place for reason.
Also Floating baits are banned on many waters including Long Lane Pool so please do not be tempted to use these on the water. There are many Ducks and Moorhens on the venue so to ensure welfare for wild-fowl the rule is in place. We appreciate your co-operation on this.
The Annual Audco league is hotting up quite literally! Round 7 saw 13 out of the 15 Anglers turn out for an early morning draw, and Stuart Miles won on the day but Dave "Bertie Bagger" Burton continued his impressive campaign with another 2nd placing. Gerald Large also showed his consistency with a 3rd place finish on the day. All this means is that Gerald tops the table after 7 rounds, with Bertie in 2nd place and Dave Matson very closely following in 3rd place.
Anglers can drop 3 out of their 11 worst results to give us the overall placings at the end, with this in mind (and when we drop 2 of these to date) Bertie and Gerald are neck and neck each with 14 points! Dave Matson on 16 points makes it an interesting league which looks like going down to the wire this season! Next up on 31st July is Long Lane Pool.
With the Extreme Heat wave expected over the Weekend and in to early next week the club are monitoring the waters to ensure minimal distress to fish with oxegen levels up and down we need to be mindful of stress on the fish. Please re-frain from using nets during this time in pleasure fishing sessions. We will update members should further actions be required.
Round 7 of the Audco League at Melverley Farm Laneside Sunday has a revised draw and fishing time. Due to expected extreme (possibly record) heat we've decided to start 2 hours earlier! So 7am draw fish 8am to 1pm. In the interests of wellbeing it makes logical sense to suspend or at least start earlier when cooler, we've opted to keep it in the diary but bring in an earlier draw time.
There will be regular Wednesday matches held on Bearcroft Pool, running from 9am until 3pm every Wednesday bar the 1st Weds of the months. These matches are not on the original match fixture schedule, but in addition to it. PLEASE NOTE: these are modest knock up matches and pleasure anglers are welcome tol fish the venue on these un-official match dates if they wish too so please don't be put off if there are a few match anglers on the venue.
There will NOT be matches on 1st Wednedays of the month, as the club have official match on the 1st Wednesday at Long Lane Pool and we will always do our upmost to prevent both pools being booked on the same day.
Match times are 9am to 3pm.
We have an open Silver fish match running on Stirchely Top pool this Saturday, which will be our last one until they return they return in the Autum. To book on please contact Stuart Miles, £12 entry draw from 8:45am fish 10am - 3pm. Carp don't count!
Nice Work Bertie! Peg 11 is now finished and massive thanks to Dave "Bertie Bagger" Burton who has done a splendid job of peg 11. Very tidy.
Rembering the great John Buttery this Month with the annual memorial match being held on Honeysuckle length. John put many hours of time in helping support and running of the club, forever in our hearts and never forgotton. A real club stalwart, the match has the normal draw time of 9am.
The club have this week (wc 2nd May 22) placed new F1's into Long Lane Pool. There were around 250 new fish introduced this week around 4-6" long. Please be aware that if fishing matches, these should be placed in Silverfish net only. They shouldn't be placed in with bigger Carp (nor weighed with them please), please weigh with Silvers as seperate weigh. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
The Annual charity pairs match takes place this weekend on Newport and Honeysuckle lengths of canal, draw will be 9am at the Club town stretch, fishing 10am - 3pm.
The next Silvers match takes place at Apley Pool Teford over Easter Weekend, Saturday 16th April. This is now booked up and confirmed, fishing road side pegs 1-8, 34-28. Carp do not count in the Silver matches. Draw by 9am, Fish 10am -3pm.
The 2022 Audco League starts this Weekend on the Shropshire Union Canal. We will be using the Hinstock Wood (Barn Stretch) on Sunday and parking in the field and on the road. This is the first of 11 rounds of fishing where we take top 8 results out of 11 to decide positons. It runs from April to September, £25 entry on your first match and then £15 per round fished.
NOTE: THIS EVENT IS BOOKED UP WITH A RESERVE LIST, SO PLEASE DON'T TURN UP IF NOT BOOKED IN.
